What does a wisdom tooth pain feel like?

Wisdom tooth pain can start as a slight discomfort around the gum mostly around a partially erupted or impacted wisdom tooth. The most common reason for wisdom tooth pain is food and bacteria (plaque) accumulating around the gum covering the wisdom tooth which cannot be cleaned, which slowly accumulates and causes a gum infection around the wisdom tooth. Other reasons for wisdom teeth pain often include decay on the wisdom tooth, or even worse, decay on the molar in front.

Wisdom tooth pain generally appears for a few days and will come and go every 4-6 months. However, each episode of wisdom tooth pain will gradually worsen, and generally becomes very painful. In some rarer cases, the gum infection can spread to the neck area, which can be life threatening

How do you make wisdom teeth pain go away?

The ideal treatment for wisdom tooth pain is to have them removed. For temporary relief, over the counter analgesics, cold packs, salt water rinses and cleaning around the wisdom tooth may help.
